The First Drive-in Fast Food Restaurants in Ontario

We have added a Hi Ho restaurant facade in our Salon C Transportation Museum depicting the first Hi Ho restaurant that began on Sandwich Street on the west side of Windsor, Ontario, in 1937. These restaurants were the original fast food drive- in restaurants in Ontario.  The Fortin family asked for and received permission from the Walt Disney Company via a simple letter, to use the trade marked Seven Dwarfs and the Hi Ho name for their restaurants.  No lawyers were involved.  The Fortin's received permission within a few weeks in early 1934.

You will see a menu from one of the restaurants in 1961 which was donated by the son of a former cook at the Sandwich Street outlet.  Bill Cota is a new member of our Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village.

His donation is very interesting to read. Check out those 45 year old prices!

You can see photos our Hi Ho Drive-In facade under construction in May, 2006 and how it looks today...
